Why you should consider Kettlebells

By Daniella Lindsey

Kettlebells are cast iron balls with a handle and look nothing like the weights that the average gym has always been using for weight training.

The idea of the Kettlebell comes from Russia, where it is known as a Girya, and has been an essential Pavel Tsatsoulinepiece of equipment there for a long time.

The Kettlebell has become popular recently in the US due to the work of Pavel Tsatsouline.

The main reason behind why people of all ages are getting behind this unusually shaped weight, is the full body workout the body gets with a shorter routine.

Some of the benefits you get from a Kettlebell workout are:

   • Flexibility and endurance along with strength are all developed simultaneously.
   • Both back and abdominal muscles are strengthened.
   • Your body works as one unit rather than one muscle at a time.
   • It’s simple and easy for everyone.
   • Very fast rate of calorie burn, due to combined muscle group workouts.
   • Agility and balance improve; especially important to older folk.
   • Both muscular and cardiovascular systems improve.

Exercises include names like “The Press”-“The Snatch”-“Two Arm Clean" and “The Swing”.

The Snatch will exercise thighs and assist in removing Cellulite fat.
The Swing tightens up hips and thigh muscles making a better shaped leg.
The Two Arm Clean will help remove that extra sag under the upper arms.
The Press will lift and straighten tired, sloping shoulders.

The Kettlebell is not a piece of equipment designed purely for men.

There are lower weights, perfect for women.

And as women have lower testosterone levels than males, you won’t have to worry about achieving  better fitness along with bulky muscle.

All you’ll get are toned, shapely muscles and faster fat burning.

One of the big benefits of Kettlebell Training strengthens tendons and ligaments as the exercises are done with locked joints.

This is slightly different from conventional training but it certainly works well with the Kettlebell.

Kettlebell training is very different from what most of us have been taught in the past and because of this should be undertaken in a very controlled education program.

Any exercises done with a cast iron ball, calls for correct technique and style.

Muscles and tendons are strong if used correctly, but can be easily damaged if abused through wrong training methods.
