Men's Weight Loss

Just
imagine how you could look.

Losing weight, dieting and weight control are not very interesting hobbies for anyone
and it's hard for any man to keep the focus required by any weight loss program.
So the easiest method is to make the program a habit, and habits are formed by 21
days of repetition according to Dr. Stephen Covey.
You also need a very strong reason to increase your focus.
Possibly medical reasons, self esteem or just wanting to look better on the beach can
help keep you on track especially if you think about that reason before you eat or
exercise.
Imagine the new slim you, then proceed.
Everything is slowing down. Once we reach middle age our metabolic rate slows, testosterone levels drop and it's not a simple
job to burn fat.
Dr. Liu, a physician at the Woolcock Institute for Medical Research, is testing
possible connections between sleep apnoea, reduced testosterone and obesity. He stated "If you have one, then there
is a good chance at having one of the other two".
So sleep may also be a factor in being overweight. Too little or too much can
take its toll on handling weight loss.
Meals need to be considered rather than grabbing a bite on the run. Plenty of those
things men hate namely, fruit and vegetables to help break up fats.
Breakfast should not be missed as this lowers the need for higher food intake later
in the day.
And always wait for at least two hours after the last meal of the day before sleeping
to give the digestive system a chance to catch up on it's job.
Time to Cut out. Reasonably sized portions at every meal and cutting fat intake are two great places to start
weight loss. Junk food is precisely that-Junk Food.
The expression "Beer Belly" tells us everything needed about
excessive amounts of drink, including soda pop and cola. Too much and it all gets delivered where you don't
want it.
Cleansing the system with water and special short term cleansing
diets are part of the basic preparation of any program.
The recommended amount of water each day is 6 to 8
glasses even though when you try this for the first time you feel like you're going to choke or
drown.
Once again, start gradually and increase the glasses per day and
by the time you get to 6 a day it will have become a habit.
Lift something.
After all the correct foods, diets and slimming pills, the thing that
really needs to combined with a weight loss program is the old WORKOUT. Males have a higher metabolic
rate than women and so can have a higher energy intake during slimming.
And as males have a higher percentage of lean muscle tissue, a male
can burn off fat at a faster rate than a female.
Lifting weights, aerobic training, jogging and walking burns fat and increases
muscle mass and therefore there's more muscle to burn even more fat. 30 to 45 minutes a day on a good exercise
program will bring surprising results quickly.
A Swedish study published on the British Medical Journal website, claims that for
men over 50, taking up exercise is as beneficial as giving up smoking. Taking up an exercise program after the age
of 50 will, after 10 years of regular exercise routine, give the same life expectancy as males that have always
exercised.
The study also points that only half of middle age men from western countries do
any form of regular exercise.
To go a step further into an entry level body building program, even at
middle age, can be quite satisfying.
There are three basic body shapes called Somatotypes.
Ectomorphs tend to be naturally
lean with a low ratio of body fat to muscle. Exercise helps this body add shape and definition to
muscle.
Mesomorphs are a stronger more
compact shape, usually with well developed muscle groups. With age this larger muscle mass tends to sag. Exercise programs will help lift the muscle back to
where it will do the most good and look its best.
Endomorphs are mainly shorter
in body and limb than the other types with wider hips, larger joints and a higher fat to muscle ratio. A good exercise program will lift sagging muscle, remove excess
body fat and assist this body type in carrying weight better for a more attractive shape.
